In 2025, Rabbi Silk led a congregational trip, Civil Rights Journey to the American South, visiting Atlanta, Georgia, and Montgomery, Selma, and Birmingham, Alabama. The trip offered an opportunity to learn about the struggles of African Americans to gain equality in the 1950s and 60s, as well as discover how Jews were involved in the Civil Rights movement.

Trip Highlights:

  • Visits to historic sites like the Equal Justice Initiative’s Legacy Museum and Memorial to victims of lynching, the Rosa Parks Museum, the Martin Luther King Center, the Ebenezer Baptist Church and more.
  • At the Edmund Pettus Bridge, participants heard from activists who took part in the historic Selma to Montgomery march.
