Kristin Harmel’s novel, The Sweetness of Forgetting, is a fascinating story of a young woman, Hope McKenna-Smith, and her beloved grandmother, Mamie. Mamie is drifting away in a haze of Alzheimer’s, but in a rare moment of clarity, Mamie realizes that she must finally tell her granddaughter the secrets that she has held onto for many years. Hope then pieces together her grandmother’s past bit by bit.
