By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult is a dual-timeline historical fiction novel exploring female erasure in literature. It follows Emilia Bassano in Elizabethan London—who secretly writes plays attributed to Shakespeare—and her modern descendant, Melina Green, who struggles to produce a play in a male-dominated industry, linking themes of voice and authorship.  Told in intertwining timelines, By Any Other Name centers on two women who are determined to create something beautiful despite the prejudices they face.  It is a sweeping tale of ambition, courage, and desire.
