Emanu El Sisterhood is honoring its longtime board member, Joan Morgenstern, for her dedication and generous support of the Museum of Fine Arts’ Photography Department. Her contributions have helped preserve and promote the rich artistic traditions of her Jewish heritage through the donation and exhibition of her photographs. Joan Morgenstern, a prominent figure in the Houston Jewish community, has made significant contributions to the art world through her passion for collecting photography. As a curator of the art collection at Congregation Emanu El,  she demonstrated her commitment to preserving and promoting Jewish culture and heritage. The themes of social justice and community, which are central to Jewish tradition, are prominently featured in the photographs she has collected over the years. By bringing these works to the MFAH and Emanu El, Morgenstern created an opportunity for the public to engage with art that resonates with Jewish history and culture.
