The Marriage Box, by Corie Adjmi, is the story of Casey Cohen, a 16-year-old Jewish girl in New Orleans in the 1970s who starts hanging out with the wrong crowd. When she gets in trouble, her parents turn her world upside down by deciding to return to their roots, the Orthodox Syrian Jewish community in Brooklyn. Casey journeys from wild teen to 18-year-old married woman and grapples to balance her need for independence with the comforts and constraints of tradition. This story is both a heartbreaking and heartwarming story of the families we are born into and the families we choose, and the unbreakable bonds between women.
