Rabbi Josh Fixler explores one of the most confounding mysteries in the Bible: the sudden death of Uzza as King David brings the ark of the covenant toward Jerusalem. Moving from Parashat Sh’mini to the haftarah in Second Samuel, he weaves together Benoit Blanc–style detective work, the joy and shame of David’s dancing, and God’s refusal to let David build the Temple. Through stories of Krakow’s interrupted Simchat Torah, October 7th, and the mantra “od nirkod shuv – we will dance again,” Rabbi Fixler reflects on the Jewish instinct to hold laughter and trembling, grief and hope, all at once. He invites us to ask not “why did tragedy happen?” but “how do we keep dancing together anyway?”
