Conversations That Matter: The Emanu El Speaker Series

Conversations That Matter: The Emanu El Speaker Series brings together inspiring voices, thoughtful perspectives, and meaningful dialogue that spark learning and connection within our congregation and beyond.

Through programs such as our Endowment Speaker Series, our annual Rozelle & Robert I. Kahn Scholar in Residence weekend, and the innovative Ideas Without Boundaries initiative, Emanu El Houston invites thought leaders and change-makers to share insights at the intersection of Jewish life, contemporary issues, and the human experience.

Each conversation reflects our commitment to lifelong learning, vibrant community, and the exchange of ideas that deepen understanding and strengthen the bonds among us.

Endowment Speaker Series

“Jewish Life: Community, Cuisine & Culture”

In an increasingly divided world, understanding the richness of our culture has never been more important. “Jewish Life: Community, Cuisine & Culture” is a vibrant program designed to celebrate Jewish heritage while strengthening the bonds that hold our community together.

This year’s Endowment Speaker Series invites participants to explore Jewish identity through storytelling and the universal language of food.

The Emanu El Endowment Speaker Series is made possible by Nathan Berg Lecture Series Fund, Caplovitz Lectureship Fund, Eleanor & Frank Freed Fund, and Helen & Harry Reichek Fund.

Rozelle & Robert I. Kahn Scholar in Residence

Congregation Emanu El is excited to welcome Rabbi Dr. Wendy Zierler, Ph.D., during the weekend of December 5 – 7, 2025 as our Rozelle & Robert I. Kahn Scholar in Residence.

Over the course of the weekend, Rabbi Wendy will join Emanu El at different opportunities while she covers a wide range of topics including TV and Torah, and empathy and metaphor as spiritual practice. Her latest book, Going Out with Knots: My Two Kaddish/ COVID Years with Hebrew Poetry will be available to purchase at various points throughout the weekend.

Ideas Without Boundaries

The Ideas Without Boundaries Speaker Series expands Emanu El Houston’s tradition of thoughtful dialogue by offering engaging programs that explore timely issues, bold ideas, and diverse perspectives beyond the scope of our Endowment Fund Speaker Series and Rozelle & Robert I. Kahn Scholar-in-Residence weekends.

Through this initiative, we welcome leaders, innovators, and thinkers whose experiences shed light on complex global challenges and inspire meaningful conversation within our community.

Ideas Without Boundaries reflects Emanu El’s commitment to open exchange, intellectual curiosity, and recognizing the many ways Jewish values inform our understanding of the world around us.
