Position Summary
Becker School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Early Childhood Educator to join our vibrant, community-centered learning environment. This role serves as the primary caregiver and educator for a consistent group of children and works closely with a co-teacher to create a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom.
This position reports directly to the Director of Becker School.
Guided by Becker’s mission and Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy, the teacher fosters a safe, inclusive, and joyful Jewish learning environment. This educator supports each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development while building strong partnerships with families.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Environment & Teaching
- Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment aligned with Becker’s philosophy
- Collaborate with a co-teacher to design meaningful learning experiences based on children’s interests
- Set up the classroom as a “third teacher,” promoting independence, curiosity, and success
- Supervise children at all times (classroom, playground, hallways, bathrooms)
- Maintain classroom materials, documentation, and children’s records
Curriculum & Instruction
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum across all domains (social-emotional, cognitive, physical, language)
- Integrate literacy, math, science, creative arts, and Jewish learning into daily experiences
- Use diverse teaching strategies and encourage critical thinking through questioning and exploration
- Provide opportunities for choice, independence, and mastery
Assessment & Documentation
- Observe and assess children to inform instruction and curriculum planning
- Maintain ongoing documentation
- Communicate children’s progress with families through conferences and regular updates
- Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in all records and communications
Relationships with Children
- Build warm, responsive, and respectful relationships with each child
- Support emotional well-being through positive guidance and encouragement
- Model appropriate behavior, communication, and problem-solving
Family Engagement
- Establish strong, respectful partnerships with families
- Communicate regularly through newsletters, daily updates, and a parent engagement app
- Conduct biannual parent-teacher conferences
- Welcome and encourage family involvement in the classroom community
Health & Safety
- Ensure children’s safety at all times through active supervision
- Maintain compliance with health, sanitation, and licensing standards
- Complete required CPR/First Aid and ongoing training
- Promote healthy routines, including outdoor play and hygiene practices
Professional Responsibilities
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong communication skills
- Collaborate effectively with co-teachers and staff
- Participate in staff meetings, school events, and professional development
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Physical Demands: Ability to be actively engaged physically with children, including lifting, bending, and sitting on the floor. Must be at least 18 years old.
Qualifications
- Experience working with young children in an early childhood setting
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices
- Willingness to learn and implement a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- CDA or degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred
- Knowledge of Jewish Vales (preferred)
Salary
Based on experience and education. Starts at $20 per hour.
