Congregation Emanu E will open the doors of the Proler Chapel and host members from its three Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) sister synagogues in the greater New Orleans area – Gates of Prayer, Sinai and Touro – for a Rosh HaShanah morning service.

The service will be led by Gates of Prayer Rabbi Emeritus Bob Loewy and Cantorial Soloist Jordan Lawrence.

Those attending the service are asked to park on-site at the Gaylor Parking Facility at the rear of the Emanu El campus. The first floor is reserved for those with an appropriate placard for handicap-accessible use. To enter the Emanu El campus, follow the directions of the officers who will usher guests through Gate 1 on the east side of the synagogue. Guests are asked to be prepared to present an ID such as a driver’s license to the volunteers greeting participants and should feel comfortable to come as they are. Emanu El will be supplying copies of the Reform Movement’s High Holy Day prayer book, Mishkan HaNefesh.

In alignment with Emanu El’s reopening policy, all attendees are asked to be vaccinated. Masking will be required for all worshippers regardless of vaccination status.

New Orleans synagogue guests are also invited to take advantage of reciprocity to attend any of the in-person High Holy Day experiences while in Houston at Emanu El by presenting a Louisiana or Mississippi identification. Additionally, Emanu El’s services will be available through our website, Facebook page, Roku and YouTube channels. All online platforms are open to the public.

Those with questions about the New Orleans specific offering or the High Holy Days at Emanu El are asked to contact Jason Plotkin at 713.535.6414 or jasonp@emanuelhouston.org. Additional High Holy Day information can be found here.
