Emanu El strives to create Jewish learning experiences for adults which engage the mind, touch the heart, and move the soul. We do this by exploring the meaning of Jewish text and discovering the richness of Jewish heritage. We aim to inspire a deeper understanding of Judaism, its heritage, its history and its identity.

Torah Study

We have a terrific class led by our clergy. Lend your voice to the discussion, nourish your mind and soul as we discover the richness of Torah together.

Gems of Torah

Gems of Torah is an in-depth exploration of the weekly Torah portion.

Adult Education Classes

Basic Judaism

Would you like to learn more about Judaism? Are you looking to touch up on the things you learned long ago? Are you or someone you know considering conversion to Judaism? Basic Judaism is a course designed to introduce the who's, what's and how's of Judaism. Taking place Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., Basic Judaism is a free course open to anyone wishing to learn about Judaism, especially individuals considering conversion to Judaism. Taught by our rabbis, the classes will cover topics including Jewish history, holidays, rituals and beliefs.

Adult Hebrew

Learning adult Hebrew is a wonderful way to make worship services more familiar and participatory. We have two terrific year-long adult Hebrew classes to choose from:

Beginning Hebrew meets Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. This class is for the absolute beginning, emphasizing letter recognition with a year-end goal of reading simple words and phrases.

Intermediate Hebrew meets Sunday mornings from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. This class is for those students who know all the letter and vowel sounds and are ready to string words together. The goal is for more fluent reading.

Course cost is $180. Please contact Donna in Rabbi Silk's office to reserve your spot at 713.529.5771, ext. 212, or donnaf@emanuelhouston.org.
