#GIVING TUESDAY November 29, 2022
Congregation Emanu El is a warm and welcoming Reform congregation whose members are diverse, compassionate, and dedicated people. Being a part of the Emanu El community does not look the same for every person. A special and dedicated part of our community are those who have come to Judaism through conversion.
Congregation Emanu El clergy perform an average of 7-10 conversions each year for people who reach out to us to learn more about Judaism and becoming Jewish.
Rabbi Silk explains, “The path of conversion to Judaism at Congregation Emanu El is a thoughtful, rigorous and deeply personalized process. It combines 20 hours of class-based learning with numerous one on one meetings with a member of the temple’s clergy. This balance of learning experiences encourages conversion candidates to create meaningful relationships with other students and clergy, fosters a warm sense of community within the congregation, and encourages serious self-exploration and growth.”
Conversion at Congregation Emanu El takes at least a year (often longer) and those interested must complete two semesters of Basic Judaism class in addition to the following:
Each conversion process takes over 35 hours of clergy time.
This #GIVINGTUESDAY help Congregation Emanu El uplift and support our clergy in the sacred work of welcoming newcomers to Judaism as they provide conversion services free of charge.
Also, upon completing conversion with Emanu El, these new community members receive a complimentary yearlong membership to Congregation Emanu El.
