Her Score, Her Story: Celebrating the Powerful Voice of Women
Join the Emanu El Sisterhood on March 24, 2027, for an extraordinary event with Shaina Taub — two-time Tony Award-winning composer, Grammy-nominated performer, and the creator and star of Suffs, the landmark Broadway musical about the women who won the right to vote. Taub earned Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score for Suffs, in which she portrayed suffragist icon Alice Paul, and was named to Time‘s 2024 Time100 Next list. Her work spans Free Shakespeare in the Park, the West End, Carnegie Hall, and Sesame Street.
In Her Score, Her Story, Taub shares how the courage and contradictions of the real suffragists shaped every note of her score — and how women’s voices, woven together, can make history sing. The event also honors the enduring legacy of Myra Blum Lipper, one of Congregation Emanu El’s great community-builders, whose boundless energy as Program Director and Sisterhood President enriched Jewish life across Houston.
