4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Community invited to free January 26 concert at Congregation Emanu El

Through a dynamic presentation of song, Cantor Rollin Simmons will take audiences through a musical exploration of the meanings, feelings and concepts of home in a free concert at the synagogue on Sunday, January 26, from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.

The concert’s theme, “Longing and Belonging: Songs of Home,” inspired a repertoire which features Cantor Simmons performing the music of Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Weill, Simon and Garfunkel and more.

“Is home a place you dream about, an unattainable idyllic scene that you can never quite reach? Is home the feeling when you know you are with people you love and support you? We call a home a mikdash m’at - a little sanctuary: a place of safety, a place of shelter, a place of quiet, and a place to welcome guests,” says Cantor Simmons. “Throughout our lives, we all struggle to find a sense of connectedness, of belonging, of home. This genre-defying concert will explore how the concept of home fits into our lives.”

Performing with Cantor Simmons are vocalists Emily Moses and Alexandra Venzke along with Phillip Hall on piano, David Goldstein on bass and Starlic Williams on percussion. A reception will follow the concert.

Free and open to the public, tickets to the “Longing and Belonging: Songs of Home” concert and reception are required, with registration available below or by calling 713.529.5771.
