EE75 Social Action: Cultivating Families

Sunday, September 22, 2019 22 Elul 5779

12:15 PM - 3:00 PMCongregation Emanu El
The mission of Cultivating Families is to equip communities of faith to care for foster and adopted children and their families, so that no child will be left to navigate life alone.

Chairs: Marcia Fiman & Alison Septimus

Emanu El Activities:

  1. First Night Backpacks: When a child is removed from their home, they have very little time to gather belongings. This is a sudden and traumatic moment in a child’s life. Foster families have very little time between the phone call and welcoming a child into their home. First Night Backpacks are one small way to ease this transition. Volunteers will help to fill 50 backpacks with items ranging from toiletries to books & stuffed animals.
  2. Congregational Mailing: We will assist Cultivating Families with packing their introductory mailing materials to reach over 4,000 congregations in Harris County.
  3. Making Pillow Covers. Everyone loves the surprise of a gift, complete with wrapping and a card, especially for them.A decorated pillowcase is a perfect “package” to hold pillow, sheets, and other bedding items being donated along with a bed. A decorated “bed pocket” makes a nice addition to the bedding. Volunteers will help decorate 50 pillow cases.
