Book Review - "The Girl from Berlin"

Thursday, November 14, 2019 16 Cheshvan 5780

12:30 PM - 1:30 PM

The next book review in the Sisterhood’s series of reviews will feature The Girl from Berlin as our congregant Shelly Cyprus serves as our book reviewer. She will be accompanied by her granddaughter, Jacqueline Audas, a violinist who is pursuing her master's degree in violin performance at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.

The synopsis: Ada Baumgarten, the girl from Berlin, is the daughter of the first violinist and concertmaster of the prestigious Berlin Philharmonic; she is a gifted violinist in her own right. As a Jewish girl growing up in Berlin in the 1930s, Ada’s extraordinary talent carries her family from one tenuous situation to another. Ultimately, the family flees to Bologna, Italy, where, years later, attorney Catherine Lockhart and her spouse, detective Liam Taggart, unravel and trace the validity of deed transfers to Ada’s Italian property, culminating with an outcome that affirms the triumph of legal finesse over lingering evil.

To help us plan for our book reviews and to receive communications about future book reviews, we ask that you kindly RSVP online or by contacting the Sisterhood at or 713.529.5771, ext. 233.
