An Evening with Gloria Steinem

Thursday, November 7, 2019 9 Cheshvan 5780

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Presented by Brazos Bookstore, in partnership with Congregation Emanu El & the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center, author Gloria Steinem will be speaking about her latest book, The Truth Will Set You Free.

The cost for this event is $22 and includes a pre-signed hardback copy of the book. This ticketed event is expected to sell out and tickets must be purchased ahead of time.

A collection of Steinem’s lifetime of quotes—powerful and wise, funny and outrageous—beautifully illustrated, and with a new introduction and essays by the feminist writer and activist herself. From Steinem’s early days as a journalist and feminist activist, up to today, her words have helped generations to empower themselves and work together. Her book covers topics from relationships to patriarchy and activism.

A renown writer, lecturer, editor and feminist activist, Steinem co-founded Ms. Magazine in 1972, and she remained one of its editors for 15 years. In 1968, she helped found New York Magazine, where she was a political columnist and wrote feature articles. Her books include the bestsellers Revolution from Within, Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions, Moving Beyond Words, Marilyn: Norma Jeane, and As if Women Matter (published in India). Steinem has received the Penney-Missouri Journalism Award, the Front Page and Clarion awards, the National Magazine Award, the Women's Sports Journalism Award, the Lifetime Achievement in Journalism Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Society of Writers Award from the United Nations, the James Weldon Johnson Award for Journalism, and many others. In 2013, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.

There will be an ASL interpreter for the event and parking will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Gaylor Parking Facility at the rear of Congregation Emanu El’s campus.
