Brotherhood Garage Sale
Sunday, August 17

It must be summertime because the Brotherhood is running about town making pickups for the 2008 Garage Sale. The sale raises money for Brotherhood projects and recycles your donations to families who make good use of them. Brotherhood members will come to your home or office (mostly on weekends) and pick up anything that is clean and in good condition. Please call 281-495-7795 or 281-293-2599 to arrange a pick up. The final pickup date is August 10 so please don't wait until the last minute!

See South America

Iguassu FallsLinda & Rabbi Walter are leading a tour to South America leaving Houton, Sunday, November 2 and returning Wednesday, November 12th. Highlights of this tour include stops in Rio de Janeiro, one of the most naturally beautifully cities in the world. While their Jewish community is relatively small, there is still a vibrant and active Jewish presence among the Cariocas (natives of Rio).

We’ll visit Iguassu Falls, a unique spectacle made up of 275 different waterways that upon joining, crash 80 metres into the chasm below. The falls are located at the border of Brazil, Argentina & Paraguay. We’ll spend Shabbat at Temple Bet El in Buenos Aires, the Paris of South America. Our final stop will be in Uruguay where we’ll visit Old town, where Jewish immigrants settled at the end of the 19th century and visit two synagogues.

Tour price: $4680 (single supplement - $1095). To sign up or get more information, contact Lynn Segal or 713-407-9703.

Gathering Place

Congregation Emanu El is the first synagogue in Houston to host a Gathering Place, a once-a-month program offering entertainment, stimulation and fun, and a light lunch for seniors who are suffering from memory loss. Drop by the multi-purpose room on the second Monday of the month and you're likely to see high-stepping tap dancers, piano-playing, sing-a-longs, and exercise balls in mid-air. What you are seeing is the Gathering Place - a new program created by Interfaith CarePartners and staffed by Emanu EI volunteers. If one of your family members or someone you know would benefit from this fun and stimulating program, please contact Brenda in Rabbi Walter's office.
