Affiliation in a
congregation offers you the indispensable key
to Jewish identity. We welcome your becoming part
of our congregation family. Emanu El was founded
in 1944 on principles of support for Israel and
freedom of expression of both pulpit and pew.
In the more than 50 years since our founding,
we have continued our devotion to these ideals,
alongside our commitment to the Jewish people,
Jewish learning and service to humankind. We are
built on a foundation of God, Torah and Israel
and invite you to join us in strengthening that
foundation.
Dues
Congregation Emanu El's dues are structured on
a fair share basis.For
those 39 and older, each member is asked to pay
his/her dues based on 2% of gross family income.
There is no verification of income required because
consideration of dues is based on mutual trust,
good faith and understanding. If there are special
circumstances which prohibit ability to pay fair
share, a confidential discussion can be arranged
with our membership coordinator. For
those between 40 and 65, a commitment to our Ten
Year Capital Improvement Fund is required.
This is equivalent to four times annual dues,
payable annually over ten years.As
a result of a special task force created to make
temple life more affordable for young members,
we have a special dues rate for those 38 and younger.
For information about these special rates, contact
our membership coordinator at
memship@emanuelhouston.org.
Rabbi's Circle
In recent years we
have initiated a special dues category. Dues for
members in this category are set at the standard
2%. Then they voluntarily add to that the amount
to make an annual commitment of $12,000. The extra
dollars are used to help the temple attract new
members and it make membership possible for those
who cannot meet the 2% standard.
