Something new from Brotherhood and PTA. Set aside three evenings for supper and a Torah discussion led by one of our rabbis.


Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m.
Sisterhood’s lay-led Torah Study group meets on the second Tuesday of each month, reading the Torah portion of the week and examining the commentaries and relevance of those resources to life. They laugh, share and schmooze. No previous knowledge of Torah is required.

Wednesdays, 12:30-1:30 p.m.
We welcome newcomers to this class which continues to make its way through the entire Bible. The class is currently studying Proverbs.


Saturdays, 9:15-10:15 a.m

Shabbat Morning Torah Study is intellectually stimulating and spiritually enlightening. Choose from either of our two enthusiastic groups which are led by our rabbis and always welcome new participants.

The Joseph Story – Examine the Biblical story of Joseph complimented and explained by ten Jewish commentators spanning the 11th & 12th centuries.

Word By Word – Jump onboard with this group of learners weaving their way through the entire Torah and currently in the Book of Exodus.
 


Celebrate Jewish Cooking

The tastes of Jewish food are different around the world but in every place Jews have lived, treasured family recipes are adapted to embrace local flavors. This three-part series was created to offer a rich variety of Jewish cooking that will transform your holidays into fabulous celebrations.

What’s For Dinner?

Whether you are flying solo in the kitchen or it’s just the two of you, this class is a Jewish answer to “what’s for dinner tonight.” An evening of dinner and cooking demonstration will excite you about preparing a delicious meal at home.

Israel and the Sacred Identity of American Jews

This 3-part series was designed to help American Reform Jews figure out how and why they might have a special, personal relationship with Israel. It explores and challenges us to see how Israel must be a core element of American Jewish life and identity.
 


Religious Freedom in America: Fact or Fiction

Michael WeinsteinWeinstein serves as President and founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a movement to protect the constitutional religious freedom of those serving in our nation’s armed services. His recently published book, “With God On Our Side”, explores his 2005 federal law suit against the Air Force to end illegal evangelizing.
 


Reflections on a Year in the Legislature

State Representative Ellen Cohen was elected November 7th to the Texas House of Representatives by the largest margin of any challenger to an incumbent in Texas . She will reflect on the 80th session including her actions with regard to Children’s Health Insurance Program, fighting for Stem Cell Research and improving Houston’s air quality.

Are you a beginner, trying to make your way through the prayer book and read along with the service? Are you interested in learning letter recognition, basic vocabulary skills and reading? This class meets Sunday mornings (when school is in session) from 11:30-1:00 p.m. Instructor: Debbie Uzick

Intermediate Hebrew
Begins Wednesday, September 5

Improve your reading proficiency. Turn basic vocabulary words into simple sentences. This will open the door for you to continue from this class to the next level of preparation for adult Bar or Bat Mitzvah. This class meets Wednesday evenings (when school is in session) from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. Instructor: Shoshana Woloski
 


Tikkun Leil Shavuot
Sunday, June 8, 9 p.m. to midnight
Leaders: Rabbis Walter, Silk & Haas

The custom of staying up late at night on the eve of Shavuot is an ancient one, reminiscent of the night before the Jewish people received the Torah at Mt. Sinai. Come gather as we engage in the traditional observance of Shavuot with late evening study.
