The Robert I. Kahn Gallery is pleased to be a FotoFest2010 Participating Space by presenting the show “There Was a Forest” by Loli Kantor. Ms. Kantor’s documentary photography portrays the disappearing population of Holocaust survivors and their lives within the small enclaves of Eastern Europe.
Ms. Kantor’s works are black and white prints made in the palladium process, as well as highly saturated color pigment prints. The show will be on view from March 17th to May 21st in the Kahn Gallery. Members and guests are invited to attend the opening reception on Wednesday, March 17th from 6:30- 8:30 p.m.

Houston architect, Morton Levy, FAIA and President of Levy Associates Architects, will discuss Jewish Sacred Space: Experiencing the Spiritual Through Architecture in the American General Conference Room of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. He will lead the audience through the story of forming a Jewish house of worship from the First Temple of Jerusalem, as described in Torah, to the evolution of the Temple today.
Sponsored jointly by the MFAH and Emanu El Sisterhood, the program is free and open to the public. Because of limited seating, reservations are strongly encouraged. The Brotherhood is very excited to be sponsoring Emanuel’s Got Talent, designed to showcase the talent from our congregation. The format will be loosely based on that of “America’s Got Talent”, with a panel of three judges commenting on the presentations, and also an audience participation “vote” in choosing the final “people’s choice”. Participation is open to all congregants who want to show off what they can do – But, even if you don’t have a talent, plan to come and watch the show!
Auditions for the event will be held on Sunday, March 28th, at noon. The judging panel will determine which acts will go on to the final show, which will be held on Sunday, April 25th at 3:00 p.m. There will be one (mandatory) dress rehearsal on Thursday, April 22nd, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All events are planned to take place in the main sanctuary.
