While the building has allowed Emanu El to serve the needs of its members, its location has enabled the congregation to become the Jewish presence in the heart of the city.
We have made a significant impact on the Houston community through sponsoring major cultural and religious experiences such as Israel Expo ’73, Festival of the Bible in the Arts and the American Jewish Festival.
We have always been a leader in areas of social action and welfare, aiding the homeless, serving the blind and feeding the hungry. Through projects such as Mitzvah Day we have encouraged our members to go out into the community to make a difference in the lives of others, fulfilling our mandate to be “a light unto the nations”.
